CRUNCHY CHOCOLATE HEARTS

I love making power-packed chocolate; it just means you can add whatever goodies you have in your cupboard or refrigerator, and it makes a great little therapeutic snack.

Makes 20 - Preparation time 20 minutes, plus 3 hours to set

1 cup cacao butter

½ cup raw cacao powder

½ cup lucuma powder

1 tablespoon maca powder

1 teaspoon mucuna powder

1 tablespoon raw honey

1 tablespoon hulled hemp seeds

1 tablespoon buckwheaties (already sprouted and dehydrated buckwheat)

1 tablespoon goji berries

Slowly melt the cacao butter in a double boiler or in a heatproof bowl set over a saucepan of gently simmering water. When the butter has melted, add the powders and honey and stir until it is a smooth chocolate consistency. Stir in the hemp seeds, buckwheaties, and goji berries.

Pour the mixture into heart-shaped molds and let set at room temperature for 3 hours. When set, chill in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

Raw Cacao Cacao is an incredibly power-packed food with extremely high amounts of antioxidants and important minerals, such as magnesium and phosphorous. I do, however, recommend that you treat raw chocolate with a feat deal of respect. It’s designed to be enjoyed in small amounts or used medicinally. Cacao contains theobromine, which dilates the blood vessels, so using cacao as an “envoy” for herbs and nutrient-rich foods to be carried into the body is a demonstration of chocolate put to its proper use.

It is important to be discerning when sourcing your raw chocolate. You really want to do your research and find cacao that is organic and preferably harvested from cacao trees and not cacao bushes. It is also good to be cautious with dosage when feeding to young children. We love it, but are always aware of its medicinal magic, its shamanic folklore, and, of course, its intensity, so treat it with respect and a little bit of awe!
